R&D Engineer VCSEL Development

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create and develop VCSEL devices suitable for advanced sensing technologies.
  • Ensure simulation models accurately reflect the behavior of VCSEL devices and translate these models into practical designs.
  • Plan, execute, and oversee experiments to validate the effectiveness and performance of VCSEL designs.
  • Closely collaborate with customers to understand their needs and performance criteria, delivering designs that exceed expectations.
  • Develop and implement methods and systems for precise measurement and evaluation of VCSEL device performance.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in opto-electronic device development and characterization, including epitaxy, fabrication, and testing.
  • PhD degree or equivalent degree in Semiconductors, Laser Physics, or Engineering.
  • Preferred background in laser design and device modeling, epitaxy, wafer fabrication, and lab-based testing.

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment with occasional access to a cleanroom and R&D lab.
  • Customer-facing role requiring flexibility for a 24/7 operation.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Frequent standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Work in a Class 100/1000 clean room and lab environment as needed.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with site safety protocols.
  • Work with and/or around gases/chemicals, both hazardous and non-hazardous.

  • Follow site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. Corporate EHS standards.

Quality and Environmental Responsibilities

  • Depending on location, may be responsible for executing and maintaining ISO 9000, 9001, 14001, and/or other applicable standards.
