R&D Engineer

About the role

We are a national staffing firm seeking a Senior Systems Engineer for a prominent client. This position is located in St. Paul, MN 55117. It is an 11‑month assignment with potential for extension or conversion based on performance and budget.

Responsibilities

• Defining, decomposing, and managing system and software requirements, ensuring traceability from feature concept through verification and product release.
• Leading technical product ownership activities, including feature prioritization, backlog management, roadmap execution, and coordination with cross-functional engineering teams.
• Supporting software, firmware, and hardware integration efforts, troubleshooting complex system-level issues, and driving root cause analysis activities.
• Collaborating with software, verification, and systems engineering teams throughout the full product development lifecycle, from concept and design through testing and release.

Pay

$55-58 per hour to start.

Schedule

9 am‑5 pm, Monday‑Friday.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline (required).
• Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline (preferred).
• 10+ years of Systems Engineering experience supporting complex software‑intensive products (required).
• Strong C++ development experience (required).
• Experience with requirements engineering, including requirements decomposition, traceability, user stories, and acceptance criteria (required).
• Experience with software and hardware integration in complex electromechanical or embedded systems (required).
• Experience with systems‑level troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and verification activities (required).
• Experience working across the full product development lifecycle from concept through release (preferred).
