As a key contributor at Rigetti Computing, you will help develop gate-based, superconducting quantum computers by turning experimental ideas into improved hardware functionality. Your work will involve rigorous characterization of qubits and gates, implementation of new measurement techniques, and interpretation of processor data in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Characterize experimental devices, assess their performance, identify areas for improvement, and provide feedback to internal development teams.
  • Provide technical focus and leadership on an R&D topic such as gate calibration, qubit relaxation/dephasing, piloting new research ideas in small processors, integration of new ideas into large processors, or implementation of quantum error correction.
  • Collaborate across diverse teams of expert engineers (fabrication, design, electronics, software, etc.) to turn experimental concepts into robust technologies that work at large QPU scales.
  • Stay current with cutting-edge research, synthesize results from the literature, and implement state-of-the-art calibration, error diagnostic, and system optimization techniques to enhance device performance.

Requirements

  • PhD in Physics or a similar applied scientific field, or a Master’s in Physics with 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated abilities in experimental problem-solving and research.
  • Expertise in the practical implementation of coherent quantum effects and control.
  • Proficiency using Python in a scientific context.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment with a team-first mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Skills

  • Experience calibrating and characterizing single- and two-qubit quantum gates in superconducting quantum devices.
  • Experience utilizing quantum simulation frameworks, such as QuTiP.
  • Proven capability to execute and communicate outcomes from innovative R&D initiatives.
  • Software development experience in a collaborative industry setting.
  • Previous technical role in an industrial or startup setting.

Pay

$155,000 - $200,000 a year base salary. Final compensation will be determined by relevant work experience, skills, and geographic location.

Benefits

  • Competitive salaries and equity.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) plan.
  • Paid parental leave program.
  • Rejuvenation days and a vacation policy aligned with local regulations and industry standards.
