Amsted Automotive Group, SMW Manufacturing in Taylor, Michigan is seeking a Quality Technician.
About the role
Inspect and verify product quality by performing dimensional checks, ensuring measurement equipment is calibrated and functioning properly, and confirming parts meet customer, engineering, and quality requirements. Maintain and identify production, calibration, setups, layouts, and customer returns.
Responsibilities
- Examine material or product for surface defects such as cracks, pits, and burrs; tag defective product.
- Compare product with parts list or sample model to ensure completion of assembly.
- Verify specified dimensions of product or material.
- Reject defective parts and mark type of defect on part, container of parts, or inspection tag.
- Interpret engineering drawings, diagrams, and confer with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
- Select products for tests at specified stages in production process and test for qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical characteristics.
- Operate diagnostic equipment needed to perform the job.
- Take directions and perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent work experience required.
- Associate’s degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering preferred but not required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to work well in a team environment and excellent work history.
- Attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and competence with GD&T.
- Ability to prioritize work to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
- Excellent verbal, listening, and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as familiarity with current technology software.
- Proactive, positive attitude, safety, and environmentally focused.
- Ability to regularly stand or work for long periods of time.
- Ability to regularly lift or move up to ten (10) pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds, and occasionally lift up to fifty (40-50) pounds.
- Occasional moderate walking throughout the plant daily.
