About the role
The Quality Supervisor is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, planning, and evaluation of Quality Assurance/Quality Control, MRB, Document Control, and Source Prep consistent with established Sonaca North America standards. This role involves reporting and coordinating overall productivity, policies, procedures, safety, budgets, and goals for these groups, and working directly with direct reports to implement department systems, procedures, and forecast resource requirements.
Responsibilities
- Analyze existing quality procedures and systems to determine compliance with customer requirements, developing revisions or new procedures as needed, including delineation of areas of responsibility and technical instructions.
- Evaluate procedures from other facilities for best practice deployment.
- Formulate quality control objectives (e.g., customer escapements, defect & scrap reduction, quality improvement targets) and coordinate them with production management to maximize product reliability and minimize costs.
- Provide defect and scrap data to management to enable analysis and corrective actions.
- Monitor progress and collaborate with supervisors and managers to develop methods and procedures for continual quality improvement.
- Train, direct, and oversee QC personnel in inspection, testing, and documentation to ensure consistency in quality requirements, methods, and calibration.
- Communicate performance expectations, coach teams, and hold individuals accountable for results as outlined in company policy.
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints regarding quality, including technical responses, on-site visits, and negotiations with customer representatives.
- Evaluate constraints in quality department processes and develop strategies to address them (e.g., source backlog, inspection variability, auditing, sampling).
- Manage scheduling and completion of internal and external audits per AS9100, ISO 9001, ISO 17025, Nadcap, and FAA ACSEP Order 8100.7C requirements.
- Travel to other sites and for training as required.
- Collaborate with department managers, engineers, and production operators on manufacturing process research and development, including tool design, new equipment evaluation, and process development for new work.
- Provide accurate and timely reporting to management on completed projects and assist in establishing success metrics.
- Travel to other facilities to assist with quality initiatives as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university, preferably in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Five years of closely related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in training and building strong work teams with minimal oversight, using delegation skills and participative decision-making.
- Must be well-organized, analytical, and able to prioritize and maintain focus.
- Must be a U.S. Person (Resident Alien or U.S. Citizen).
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to hold people accountable, impart disciplinary action when necessary, and foster a cohesive team environment.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and active listening skills for interacting with employees, customers, and vendors.
- Strong work ethic, hands-on and proactive management style, and pride in product quality.
- Ability to develop strategies to achieve organizational goals.
