Quality Supervisor
Job Purpose
The Quality Supervisor is responsible for leading the daily execution of the facility's Quality Management System through direct supervision of Quality Technicians, verification of quality processes, food safety compliance, and production support. This position provides hands-on leadership on the production floor while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and ensuring compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and regulatory standards.
Essential Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
Supervise, coach, and develop Quality Technicians.
Coordinate daily assignments and priorities for the Quality department.
Monitor workload and adjust resources to support production demands.
Provide performance feedback and assist with employee development.
Foster a culture of quality, food safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.Quality Systems
Serve as backup SQF Practitioner.
Verify compliance with SQF, GMP, food safety, and quality programs.
Conduct routine GMP, housekeeping, and quality system audits.
Participate in internal audits and corrective action verification.
Assist the Quality Manager with implementation and maintenance of quality systems.Production Quality Support
Maintain a strong presence on the production floor.
Provide real-time support to Production and Maintenance regarding quality concerns.
Review quality trends and process performance.
Coordinate quality-related activities during production.
Assist with implementation of process improvements.Quality Documentation & Data Management
Review production and quality documentation for completeness and accuracy.
Verify compliance with documentation requirements.
Follow up with operators regarding documentation inconsistencies.
Perform routine data integrity reviews.
Prepare Quality KPI and Operations KPI data for management review.
Identify quality trends and escalate concerns to the Quality Manager.
Assist in maintaining quality databases and reporting systems.Operator Competency & Training
Coordinate and conduct operator competency evaluations.
Maintain competency documentation.
Verify required training completion.
Identify retraining opportunities and coordinate follow-up activities.
Assist with implementation of quality-related training programs developed by the Quality Manager.Traceability & Product Control
Maintain the facility lot tracking and traceability program.
Verify traceability documentation.
Support mock recalls and traceability exercises.
Coordinate action plans with the Quality Manager for all product holds and non-conforming products.
Assist with product disposition activities and containment efforts.Complaint & Corrective Action Support
Gather production records, samples, and supporting documentation for investigations.
Assist with customer complaint investigations.
Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
Verify effectiveness of corrective actions.Quality Equipment Oversight
Oversee validation and verification activities for quality testing equipment.
Coordinate calibration schedules and ensure equipment remains in calibration.
Support maintenance and operation of in-line quality inspection systems, including:
Metal Detection Systems
Avid Vision Systems
Haze Detection Cameras
Pressco Inspection Systems
Additional automated quality inspection equipment as implemented
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve product quality and operational efficiency.
Support implementation of new quality initiatives.
Monitor department KPIs and recommend improvement activities.
Assist with continuous improvement projects across the facility.
Qualifications
- HACCP certification required.
- SQF, Food Defense, & PCQI certifications preferred.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field preferred.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Experience in food manufacturing, plastics manufacturing, or regulated manufacturing environment preferred.
- Working knowledge of GMPs, food safety principles, and quality systems.
- Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and manufacturing data systems.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent walking throughout the manufacturing facility.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work in varying manufacturing environments, including exposure to heat, noise, and moving equipment.
- Must wear required personal protective equipment.
Environmental Working Conditions
- Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
- Subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 for periods of more than one hour.
- Subject to noise.
- Subject to vibrations.
- Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, etc.
- Exposure to atmospheric conditions, i.e. fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
- Exposure to oils. Air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
