What You'll Get to Do
The Quality Control Specialist is focused on process observations, analysis, audits & inspections of fabricated metal building products (doors, frames, skylights, curtainwall), & reports to the Plant Manager.
- Own Material Discrepancy Report (MDR) investigation & resolution
- Serve as the dedicated point person driving root-cause analysis & corrective action to closure on customer complaints, partnering directly with operators & supervisors
- Monitor daily processes & material while conducting audits of specified quality checks
- Assist with addressing reported internal quality issues
- Gather, enter & analyze process data to create reports that facilitate improvement
- Analyze & assist with problem solving, root cause analysis & corrective actions; participate in implementation of corrective actions with process owners
- Serve as the calm, credible go-to for accept / rework / reject decisions on nonconforming material on the shop floor
- Help modernize the plant's quality inspection documentation
- Facilitate & coordinate tracking and follow-up on any rejected order, discrepancy, MDR, or complaint
- Partner informally with the metal-processing side's Quality Specialist to share best practices across the campus
What We Are Looking For
- Excellent written & oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision & maintain quality standards
- Capable of working under pressure, especially while addressing customer complaints/MDRs
- Ability to use standard hand measurement devices (calipers, micrometers, square & protractor), with the ability & willingness to learn other process-specific measurement instruments
- Ability to read die and/or engineering drawings, blueprints, tolerances & specifications
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel, with general comfort in data entry & analysis
- Commitment to working safely & supporting the facility's safety efforts
- Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Comfortable being the point person on material inspection sign-off decisions
- Basic process knowledge of manufacturing operations related to metal processing and/or fabrication
- Prior experience with Epicor, SAP, or similar ERP/quality systems
- Defect-tracking system experience
- Prior blueprint-reading experience specific to building products, doors/frames, curtainwall, or glazing
