About the Role
The Quality Specialist oversees the quality system, focusing on effectiveness, efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement. This role drives process and product quality enhancements through upgraded methods, tools, and data analysis.
Responsibilities
- Proactively maintain a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
- Support teams such as Product Teams (PT), Customer Satisfaction Teams (CST), and Continuous Improvement Teams (CIT) in resolving quality issues and improving processes.
- Provide ongoing quality system support, including internal audits, root cause corrective actions, process capability evaluations, and data mining.
- Lead or participate in activities focused on performance metrics and financial results.
- Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data, and making recommendations.
- Process non-conforming material (NCM) and ensure accurate deviation descriptions.
- Assist in investigating causes and implementing corrective actions for NCM.
- Coordinate corrective actions and facilitate resolutions for supplier quality issues.
- Work with suppliers and buyers to prevent liabilities and reduce warranty costs.
- Develop and manage the division’s quality system, including effectiveness, efficiency, compliance, and continuous improvement.
- Establish and monitor quality performance metrics and trends.
- Oversee the effectiveness of quality system audits and the corrective action system, reporting at management review meetings.
- Educate and promote understanding of the quality system.
- Manage the product audit function, including coordinate measuring machines and gage recall.
- Review and approve changes to quality policies, manuals, procedures, and work instructions.
- Ensure document control for quality system documents and maintain a quality record index.
- Coordinate scheduling for management review meetings and internal/external quality audits.
- Ensure audits cover all elements of the ISO 9000 standard and maintain a listing of qualified auditors.
- Review audit reports for completeness and file audit information.
- Work with department managers to drive continuous improvement of processes.
- Verify the effectiveness of corrective actions from previous audits.
- Ensure adherence and compliance of the quality system to ISO 9000 and other relevant standards.
- Maintain the quality system database and audit website.
- Schedule and participate in quality orientation for new hires.
- Complete external customer surveys regarding the quality system.
- Participate in customer quality audit visits and assessments.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Work overtime or off-shifts as required by business needs.
- Collaborate and interact with other employees routinely.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience (4–7 years). Preferred degree in a quality-related field or ASQ certification.
- Four to seven years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Blueprint reading.
- Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Knowledge of ISO 9000 Quality System.
- Root Cause Analysis expertise.
