Quality Manager - Largo, FL
About the Role
The Quality Assurance Manager plans, directs, and coordinates all aspects of the Quality System, encompassing control, assurance, and Test Engineering functions. This role ensures developed products meet design specifications and Beckwith Electric standards, manages third-party certifications (UL, CE, etc.), and maintains the quality system to exceed ISO 9001 requirements.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all Quality Assurance functions.
- Ensure overall product quality for the total product life cycle.
- Promote quality achievement and performance improvement across the organization.
- Act as management representative for the quality management system and maintain its compliance.
- Prepare and present quality management reports and conduct periodic reviews with senior staff.
Test Engineering
- Develop effective test strategies and test plans for existing and new products.
- Design and maintain all factory test procedures and automated production test fixtures.
- Plan, schedule, and implement testing projects to achieve best-in-class capability and functionality.
- Collaborate with engineering to align new product designs with test strategies and equipment capabilities.
- Conduct new design validation ("Type Testing") for all new engineering designs.
- Manage third-party product registrations (UL, CE, etc.).
Material Supply and Inspection
- Manage all aspects of incoming inspection of raw materials.
- Oversee final inspection of completed products.
- Work closely with Supply Chain to achieve best-in-class supplier quality.
Root Cause and Corrective Action
- Create and own best-in-class root cause and corrective action practices, implementing them across all departments.
- Lead efforts to resolve cross-product technical issues and failure analysis.
- Collaborate with staff to address product field failures.
- Work with Operations to identify and resolve quality-related issues.
- Act as key contact with customers’ auditors or quality representatives to ensure timely corrective actions.
Continual Improvement
- Lead site-wide continual improvement using defined methods.
- Maintain and develop measurement methods to identify and enable continuous improvement projects.
- Train and mentor personnel in continual improvement methods.
ISO 9001 Registration
- Maintain and improve the Beckwith Electric Quality Management System to ensure registration to the latest ISO 9001 standard.
- Maintain proper staffing levels and training to support company growth.
- Manage personnel activities of QA staff in conjunction with Human Resources.
- Provide progress reports for all projects and ensure timely, accurate reporting.
- Deliver ongoing technical and application training to Quality staff.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in Engineering, Physics, or related area.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in manufacturing dealing with quality; experience with electronics preferred.
- Experience with ISO certification/quality certification.
- Excellent testing, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
- Strong knowledge of design methods, verification, and validation.
- Working knowledge of high-tech electronic board assembly manufacturing (leaded and leadless techniques).
- Familiarity with automated testing, issue tracking, testing techniques, and operating systems.
- Excellent organizational, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and adapt in a rapidly changing environment.
- Team player, customer advocate, and innovative problem solver.
Preferred Qualifications
- Lean/Six-Sigma training and experience; GB or BB certification preferred.
- Understanding and application of statistical quality management tools (e.g., Sampling Programs, Gauge R&R, SPC, Pareto Analysis, Null Hypothesis testing).
- Experience with process mapping and design.
- Experience with cause-and-effect diagrams (Ishikawa/fishbone diagrams).
- CQM (Certified Quality Manager) or CQT (Certified Quality Technician) certification.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001-2015 standard.
