About the role

Our fully integrated plant in Canby, Oregon (Clackamas County) manufactures batteries for cars, boats, motorcycles, and heavy-duty trucks. The facility operates six days per week and employs over 235 people, celebrating nearly 50 years of operation since opening in 1973. Employees are actively involved in the community, supporting local organizations such as the Rotary Club and neighborhood schools.

Responsibilities

  • Direct quality assurance efforts, emphasizing identification and resolution of process, material, or labor problems that could compromise plant and group quality commitments.
  • Train staff and apply analytical and statistical analyses to achieve required quality results.
  • Represent the plant in quality matters with customers and suppliers when escalation is needed.
  • Coordinate containment actions for quality concerns and share best practices and standardization across all plants.
  • Support GISC Quality to drive standardization of processes (e.g., FMEAs, control plans, poka-yokes, testing equipment) and BBP’s (technical improvements, procedures).
  • Plan and direct quality and continuous improvement activities within the facility.
  • Develop, implement, and manage systems to drive quality behavior and discipline throughout manufacturing.
  • Ensure QS and ISO requirements are met and act as plant representative during audits.
  • Manage the Plant Quality Department and maintain accurate records for internal and external quality costs.
  • Ensure customer expectations are met through internal auditing and compliance with quality and process specifications.
  • Submit required monthly reports (QOS) and administer/sign-off on process specifications (SCO/DCO system, Control Plan).
  • Review quality reports to identify issues and assist the Plant Manager with corrections.
  • Manage hiring, training, and performance feedback for direct reports.
  • Provide technical support to customers and suppliers for quality or product liability issues.
  • Determine dispositions of defective materials and hold-ups.
  • Set quality objectives and deliver related training.
  • Promote awareness of customer requirements throughout the location.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement Customer Specific Requirements (CSRs) within the manufacturing site.
  • Notify customers of planned changes to design, manufacturing process, or site, and report major external findings as required.
  • Review customer scorecards and portals, taking appropriate actions.
  • Monitor site corrective and preventive actions (e.g., proper claims handling).
  • Ensure the quality management system is maintained, continuously improved, and complies with ISO 9001/IATF 16949 specifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, statistics, or a related field (required).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present clear and concise information to varied organizational levels.
  • Ability to multitask, manage projects, and build cohesive teams.
  • Willingness to work all shifts and hours as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and build trust with an hourly manufacturing workforce.
  • Strong understanding of change management practices.
  • High cultural sensitivity and alignment with diversity and inclusion strategic priorities.
  • Highly organized, deadline-driven, and able to prioritize effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite: Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six Sigma or Lean certification.
  • Certified Black Belt.
  • Quality experience in an ISO/TS-16949 environment.
  • Certified Internal TS Auditor.
  • CQE or CQA certificates.
  • Project management experience.
