Primary Function
The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the site Quality Management System (QMS) and ensuring compliance with AS9100 standards, customer requirements, and internal policies. This role provides leadership across all quality functions, including inspection, audits, corrective actions, and supplier quality, and drives continuous improvement in product quality and manufacturing processes. This position reports directly to the General Manager and partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Logistics, and Supply Chain to achieve site performance goals in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
Essential Functions
- Lead, maintain and act as the management representative for the site Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with AS9100 and AS9102
- Serve as primary point of contact for external audits and customer quality requirements
- Ensure all quality procedures, work instructions, and documentation are current and enforced
- Lead internal and external audits, including AS9100 certification and customer audits
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for internal and external quality issues
- Partner with Production and Engineering to resolve nonconformances and improve processes
- Monitor and report key quality metrics (scrap, rework, escapes, COPQ, first-pass yield)
- Develop and implement quality improvement initiatives to reduce defects and variation
- Manage supplier quality, including qualification, performance monitoring, and issue resolution
- Ensure compliance with all customer, regulatory, and company quality requirements
- Support new product introduction (NPI) to ensure quality standards are met from launch
- Lead and develop the Quality team, including inspectors and technicians
- Promote a strong quality culture on the shop floor with hands-on involvement
- Support and participate in Lean, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong background in audits, compliance, and customer-facing quality roles
- Strong knowledge of AS9100 (or similar standard) and Quality Management Systems (QMS) (required)
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in manufacturing quality, ideally with prior team leadership responsibilities
- Direct experience with AS9100, AS9102, and maintaining a certified QMS
- Experience in aerospace or precision manufacturing environments
- Experience working with FAA, DCMA and other defense agencies
- Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
