About the role
SQA Services is seeking an experienced Quality Inspector – Composites Level II to perform in-process, final, and First Article Inspections (FAI) of aerospace composite parts, assemblies, and related mechanical components. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience inspecting aerospace composites, interpreting engineering drawings and layup documentation, performing dimensional inspections, and working within AS9100/AS9102 quality systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform in-process, final, and First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 requirements
- Inspect aerospace composite materials and assemblies, including:
- Carbon fiber
- Fiberglass
- Honeycomb structures
- Bonded assemblies
- Inspect machined metallic components, including machined ports, pressure vessels, and mounting structures
- Identify and document composite-specific defects, including:
- Delamination
- Voids
- Bridging
- Porosity
- Foreign Object Debris (FOD)
- Review welding and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) reports for conformance to engineering requirements
- Review and verify traveler paperwork, ply layup charts, cure reports, and material traceability records
- Perform visual and dimensional inspections using inspection aids and precision measurement equipment
- Verify compliance with customer specifications, engineering requirements, drawings, AS9100, and AS9102 standards
- Accurately complete inspection reports and maintain required quality records
- Identify nonconformances and communicate quality concerns to appropriate personnel
- Work independently at supplier and manufacturing sites while maintaining professional relationships
- Effectively communicate and de-escalate workplace conflicts when necessary
- Must have experience with Blueprint reading
Requirements
- 3+ years of direct experience inspecting aerospace composite materials and assemblies
- Mechanical Inspection experience
- Strong knowledge of aerospace composite manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) processes and documentation
- Ability to read and interpret aerospace engineering drawings, layup charts, specifications, and work instructions
- Proficiency with GD&T, including Profile and True Position
- Experience performing visual and dimensional inspections of complex aerospace components
- Proficiency using precision inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, depth gauges, and thread gauges
- Ability to recognize composite defects and evaluate parts for conformance to requirements
- Experience reviewing manufacturing and quality documentation
- Strong attention to detail and visual inspection capability
- Ability to work independently at supplier sites
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to professionally manage and de-escalate workplace conflicts
Qualifications
This position requires access to ITAR-controlled technical data and/or defense articles. As such, the candidate must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. lawful permanent resident (green card holder) to comply with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
