Quality Inspector, Machine Shop (2nd Shift)

About the role

This full-time, non-exempt position operates on the 2nd shift (2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday through Friday). The Quality Inspector ensures all machined parts and assemblies meet the company's quality standards by inspecting for conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, and identifying defects or non-conformances. This role also involves inspecting incoming raw materials, products, and services for compliance with purchase orders and engineering requirements.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical Inspection (80% of work):
  • Conduct Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) inspections to exacting tolerances for castings, forgings, machined parts, sheet metal parts, and assemblies from vendors or in-house fabrication.
  • Inspect machined parts for proper material, processes, workmanship, and conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications, performing mathematical computations as needed.
  • Use standard inspection devices such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gages, dial bore gages, optical comparators, and thread gages.
  • Apply knowledge of geometric features in blueprints (e.g., roundness, concentricity, flatness, runout, perpendicularity, parallelism).
  • Utilize advanced inspection equipment, including the Keyence Optical Comparator, and create new programs for parts and assemblies.
  • Record inspection data on production documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform first article inspections at machines or assemblies, providing accept/reject decisions.
  • Inspect functional gages, fixtures, molds, dies, and tooling for conformance to drawings.
  • Prepare and maintain required inspection reports and records.
• Receiving Inspection (20% of work):
  • Inspect incoming raw materials, products, electronics, and services for conformance to purchase orders, engineering drawings, and specifications.
  • Identify and report non-conformances to appropriate personnel.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineers and Managers to resolve issues.
• Other Duties:
  • Assist other inspectors as directed and perform related work requiring equal or lesser skill.
  • Interact professionally to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Work with minimal supervision while adhering to quality and safety standards.
  • Document non-conformances in Discrepancy Reports (DRs).
  • Maintain high-quality standards with minimal discrepant work.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Supervisors or the Quality Manager.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• 4+ years of hands-on inspection experience with precision machined parts in aerospace, medical, or automotive manufacturing.
• Must qualify as a “U.S. Person” under 22 C.F.R. 120.15 (ITAR); verification required prior to employment.
• Familiarity with AS9100 and AS9102 aerospace standards.
• Proficiency in using precision measuring equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, optical comparators).
• Strong understanding of computer operation, trigonometry, and AQL Sampling methodologies.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Advanced knowledge of technical drawings (ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T).
• CMM experience and PCDMIS programming is a plus.
• Ability to program Keyence optical comparator is a plus.
• Required to work to dimensional tolerances as small as .0002".
• Strong time management, adaptability, and independent problem-solving skills.
• Availability for overtime as needed to support operations.
