MasTec Industrial, alongside its sister companies Casey Industrial and Phoenix Industrial, has been in operation since 1944. We serve a diverse clientele, including utilities, independent power producers, developers, and municipal utilities. Specializing in projects using natural gas, oil, biomass, and other combustible fuels, our team boasts over 30 years of expertise in the power industry. We provide EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) services and assist in project development. Our experience spans various systems for utility and industrial facilities, including simple and combined cycle plants, reciprocating engines, and waste-to-energy projects.

About the role

This position reports to the site Quality Manager or Sr Quality Manager, EI&C and indirectly to the Corporate Quality Manager. The Quality Inspector (EI&C) will conduct and document inspections in accordance with approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), ensuring all reports are accurate, legible, and traceable to field locations. The role requires effective communication and positive working relationships with owners, representatives, and site supervision to facilitate quality objectives. Travel is required up to 100%, with the first project located in Lubbock, Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Familiarity with general construction processes, testing laboratory protocols, and evaluation of materials for submittal and suitability.
  • Review subcontractor submittals, quality manuals, ITPs, and other quality documents.
  • Assist the project team in ensuring Project QC documentation is complete and procedures are followed to mitigate risk.
  • Read and understand construction plans and specifications, identifying errors or contradictions for resolution.
  • Conduct QA/QC meetings, review logs of deficiencies and punch lists, and maintain documentation.
  • Prepare reports on inspection activities and schedule inspections with agencies and third-party testers.
  • Understand and identify differences between project specifications and standard codes, administering appropriate expectations to protect MasTec Industrial interests.
  • Consult with Project Management on issues beyond your expertise.
  • Stay knowledgeable of applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, ICC, NETA).
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance, and stay up-to-date on job-related certifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a QA/QC role (education toward an engineering or technical degree may substitute for experience).
  • Extensive knowledge of codes and standards, including NEC, ICC, and NETA requirements.
  • Must hold a state-level journeyman or master electrician license or demonstrate proof of previously holding such licenses (unless substituting with an engineering or technical degree).
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in an industrial or oil and gas construction environment.
  • Training and practical knowledge of all construction trades.
  • Prior proven experience leading projects and teams in an industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint, Teams, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with construction management software platforms and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Preferred experience with Smartsheet and InEight software.

Skills

  • Knowledge of MasTec Industrial Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and document quality-related issues.
  • Effective communication with project managers, superintendents, clients, and the public.
  • Ability to work independently, productively, and ensure adequate resources for assigned tasks.
  • Self-motivated with initiative and critical thinking skills for corrective actions.
  • Diplomatic skills for addressing quality and safety issues with internal and external parties.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands

  • Work up to 12-hour shifts in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.
  • Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully.
  • Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb as part of job tasks.
  • Stamina to perform repetitive tasks continuously for several hours.

Pay

Compensation ranges from $49 to $58 per hour, commensurate with experience.
