Quality Inspector - 1st Shift

Reports to: Quality Manager

Schedule

• 8-hour shifts, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM
• Mandatory overtime on off days as necessary

Pay

$21.17 per hour

Responsibilities

• Approves incoming materials by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; rejecting and returning unacceptable materials
• Approves in-process (Fabrication) production by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; communicating required adjustments to production supervisor
• Approves finished products by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; returning products for re-work; confirming re-work
• Keeps measurement equipment operating by following operating instructions; calling for repairs
• Maintains files in the Quality Assurance Department
• Performs Mechanical Pull tests and coordinates operation of optical comparator
• Maintains Die and Fabrication Print files within the quality office
• Performs hardness & length measurement checks per SOI 82-05-01
• Documents inspection results by completing reports and logs; summarizing re-work and waste; inputting data into quality database
• Handles additional quality-related information required in the performance of inspection
• Works independently and as part of a team
• Assists other personnel and performs other duties as required per supervisor
• Informs the Supervisor of any equipment problems or other issues
• Works in a safe manner, always wearing all required Proper Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Maintains a clean, clutter-free workstation
• Participates in a collaborative environment
• Complies with safety policies and procedures
• Accepts feedback from the Team Leader to ensure bundles meet safety standards
• Completes special projects and other duties as assigned
• Performs Mechanical (Pull) tests on the Tensile Machine and reports findings to the Customer when requested
• Maintains all Quality Assurance tools
• Verifies that all inspection tools are calibrated and functioning properly
• Performs Quality Audits for receiving, in-process, and outgoing material
• Reviews Inspection Reports to ensure accuracy of information
• Assists the Extrusion Department in quality inspections when required

Work Environment / Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear
• Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
• Regularly works near moving mechanical parts
• Noise level in the work environment is usually loud and always without air conditioning

Requirements

• Able to read and understand inspection tools (Micrometers, calipers, comparator)
• Able to use Webster Hardness Tester
• High School Diploma or GED
• Must pass a skills-based test
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work efficiently and effectively; self-motivated; self-starter
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Must be conscientious, diplomatic, and detail-oriented
• Must pass a company background check and drug screen
