About the role
This Quality Co-Op/Intern position provides engineering support to machining and assembly departments, focusing on problem resolution, process improvement, and quality system implementation.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with machining and assembly personnel to provide timely engineering support for ongoing problems.
- Identify root causes of issues in the engine manufacturing process and collaborate with organizational departments or suppliers to implement permanent corrective actions.
- Assist with corrective actions for daily PQI (Product Quality Improvement) and internal campaign issues in machining or assembly departments.
- Complete and analyze data, identify trends, and facilitate improvement actions.
- Maintain a problem-solving database to track resolutions and utilize effective communication and problem-solving skills to foster team improvements in safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency.
- Develop and implement quality-engineered systems for new processes, products, and product transfers.
- Assess and advise on the robustness of Quality System implementation.
- Develop SPC (Statistical Process Control) and training plans for new product launches.
- Support new process/product development and transfer products in a Quality Engineering role.
- Provide direction, analysis, and recommendations to QA Engineers to ensure effective quality control and risk management plans.
- Write, review, and/or approve process and product validation protocols, reports, equipment qualifications, and engineering change orders.
- Lead Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Control Plans for both Process and Design FMEAs, and support complaint investigations.
- Ensure proper use of statistical tools (DOE, SPC) to analyze data, make acceptance decisions, and improve process capability.
- Ensure development activities follow control requirements and products are properly transferred to manufacturing.
- Assure control plans meet requirements for effective product acceptance, including inspection, equipment, gage requirements, and sampling plans.
- Initiate and investigate Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA) as needed.
- Establish and implement a process audit program.
- Lead continuous improvement activities, support a Lean environment, and reduce re-work and scrap.
- Assist in the development, review, and approval of process and equipment validation.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an Engineering Program with completion of Sophomore year.
- Excellent technical, verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Proven problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a self-directed environment.
- Flexibility to work portions of day and evening shifts.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
- Preference for candidates able to work 40 hours per week.
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel spreadsheets.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferable.
