Quality Engineer I - Automation

Shift Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
About the role
In this role, you will perform software integration testing, functional testing, and test automation across complex software environments while helping ensure products meet the highest standards of quality. You will work closely with global engineering teams to validate software integrations, investigate quality issues, and enhance automated testing solutions. This role also includes hands-on testing of AI-powered features and technologies.
Responsibilities
- Perform software integration testing, functional testing, and test automation across complex software environments.
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks, test suites, and test cases.
- Execute end-to-end testing across client platforms and software integrations.
- Perform functional testing of AI-powered features, experiences, and virtual assistant technologies.
- Investigate test failures, analyze logs, and determine root causes of quality issues.
- Identify, escalate, track, and drive critical quality issues through resolution.
- Participate in test planning, test design, test authoring, and test execution activities.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and quality teams across global locations.
- Improve test coverage through automation and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide clear reporting on quality metrics, testing results, and release readiness.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional experience as a Software Development Engineer, Software Quality Engineer, Automation Engineer, or related role.
- Strong programming experience in Swift (preferred), Python, Java, or other object-oriented programming languages.
- Experience designing, developing, and maintaining automated tests and test frameworks.
- Experience with test automation tools and frameworks; XCTest experience is a plus.
- Strong understanding of test planning, test design, execution, and defect management processes.
- Experience testing AI technologies, AI-powered features, or intelligent software applications.
- Experience working with virtual assistants or conversational technology platforms.
- Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause analysis skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Qualifications
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience writing shell scripts.
- Familiarity with Xcode and the ability to build or modify existing iOS application code.
- Experience with operating systems, debugging tools, and performance profiling tools.
- Ability to debug complex issues within multi-tier client/server environments.
- Experience testing backend services at the API or protocol level.
- Understanding of testing methodologies including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
- Familiarity with logging, telemetry, analytics, and monitoring concepts.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced engineering environment.
- Curious, proactive mindset with strong learning agility and a passion for new technologies.
Pay
The annual salary for this position is between $84,000.00 - $86,000.00, depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
