Quality Engineer-Electrical / QC (Quality Engineer 1 or 2)

This position is open for external candidates only and will be filled at either the Quality Engineer 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional responsibilities will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

What You Will Do

Quality Engineer (QE) 1 ($87,800 - $143,000)

• Perform Level II QC inspections.
• Proactively evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for corrective actions.
• Develop and update inspection procedures, reports, inspection forms/formats, protocols, and checklists.
• Perform duties of a Non-conformance Report Coordinator (NCRC), including tracking, reporting, and fostering timely closure of open non-conformance reports.
• Demonstrate knowledge in application of electrical and mechanical inspection skills (nuclear and/or DOE QE program experience preferred).
• Experience in electrical inspections and anchor bolt installation.
• Monitor operations for adherence to project plans and specifications to ensure quality control compliance.
• Perform inspection functions per inspection plans and record results of inspections/tests per applicable procedures.
• Implement quality control procedures and policies to ensure inspection/test activities conform to applicable plans, procedures, and specifications.
• Safety and Security are a primary responsibility.

Quality Engineer (QE) 2 ($96,600 - $158,000)

In addition to the duties listed above, the Quality Engineer 2 will:

• Demonstrate expert knowledge in application of electrical inspection skills, typically with 5 years of experience in construction, residential, nuclear, and/or DOE QE programs.
• Apply high-level quality control techniques and statistical process control methods to identify correct measurement methods, tools, and/or systems.
• Identify data collection points and analyze data to identify failure modes, track trends, focus improvement actions, rate performance, and measure effectiveness.

Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements

• Knowledge of and experience with quality regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
• Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting QC.
• Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) / NFPA 70, 72.
• Familiarity with construction codes and standards, and applying quality requirements to construction projects.
• Technical knowledge in the application of engineering, environmental, procurement, construction, testing, and operations practices sufficient to evaluate and interpret specified requirements.
• Excellence in interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills (oral and written) as evidenced by successful interaction with various levels of management.

• Advanced knowledge and skills in quality engineering.

Qualifications

Education/Experience at lower level (QE 1)

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Engineering (QE), or Industrial Systems Engineering or a related field and 2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education/Experience at higher level (QE 2)

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, QE/Quality Assurance (QA), or Industrial Systems Engineering or a related field and 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills

Desired Qualifications

• Working knowledge and experience with DOE QC programs.
• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship certification program.
• Additional relevant education and/or certification in a related field and/or current relevant professional certification.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (especially Outlook, Word, and Excel), and Adobe.
• Active DOE Q Clearance.
• International Code Council (ICC) Certification preferred.

Work Location & Schedule

The work location for this position is onsite in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

• This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve working a shift/weekend schedule.
• Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager.
• Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

This is a regular position. Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
