About the role

Plan, coordinate, and direct quality control programs on the manufacturing floor to ensure continuous production of products consistent with established customer requirements. Work closely with external vendors and suppliers to ensure adherence to ITW standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop robust Control Plans for Production Quality Control and update them with lessons learned through continuous improvement activity.
  • Perform complex quality audits and set quality standards for both in-process and finished products and materials.
  • Develop and provide guidance in methods for testing, sampling, and training.
  • Report on complex quality analyses and defective products, recommending necessary quality procedure changes.
  • Ensure compliance throughout all quality testing and validation phases.
  • Facilitate quality audits and regulatory inspections, and lead laboratory studies, research, testing, and operational activities.
  • Work closely with external vendors, contractors, and suppliers to ensure final product meets organization's quality standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and assist in training less experienced engineers/inspectors.
  • Ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products.
  • Mitigate customer complaints and serve as the point of contact with the customer.
  • Review control of nonconformance material disposition and inspection of reworked product.
  • Accurately track and report costs through outlooks.
  • Measure prototype, pre-production, and serial parts during product launch.
  • Responsible for all serial PPAP documentation.
  • Facilitate and lead problem-solving activity through the 8D Process, DMAIC Principles, and 5-Why Problem Solving.
  • Interpret SPC to make sound judgments on part quality, with a clear understanding of Cpk and Ppk data.
  • Assist manufacturing engineers with RPN reduction by creating and enhancing PFMEAs and Control Plans based on lessons learned.
  • Follow and instill good Safety Practices in accordance with ITW objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience required.
  • 2-3+ years of manufacturing experience in a Quality Engineer role preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with root cause analysis techniques.
  • Able to read prints; GD&T experience is a must.
  • Ability to work in a team or individual environment.
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work a flexible shift, including overtime and weekends.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to handle, and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Alternative or combined skills in understanding, counseling, and/or influencing people are important in achieving job objectives, including persuasiveness, assertiveness, and sensitivity to others' perspectives.

Pay

$75,000–$93,000 annually.
