Quality Control Technician II
About the role
The Quality Technician II is responsible for ensuring that all aggregate and Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) materials production and placement follow all required internal and external quality standards and specifications. They assist with the implementation of best practices and techniques with regard to quality, production, delivery, and placement of all materials. They assist with establishing and achieving quality objectives for all aspects of operations, while working closely with operations, dispatch, estimators, and project management.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all aspects of his/her role are executed in a safe manner.
- Follow Martin Marietta safety policies at all times.
- Establish the environment as a priority in daily activities and act as a steward to the environment.
- Demonstrate a commitment to meet or exceed environmental compliance.
- Perform work related tasks as specified according to ASTM, AASHTO, CALTRANS, and Martin Marietta standards.
- Work closely with plant operations on a daily basis to monitor aggregate moisture, cleanliness and uniformity.
- Develop close working relationships with plant operations in order to ensure the HMA and aggregates meet established quality targets.
- Ensure good customer relations. Must be able to communicate effectively with customers in a diverse environment.
- Provide customer support in resolving quality concerns and problems in the field by working various departments.
- Educate customers in proper HMA placement and compaction techniques.
- Work closely with Divisional Lab to ensure raw material sampling schedules are met, and that all daily HMA testing results are communicated to the appropriate parties.
- Absorb and participate in lab related projects and mix designs.
- Maintain a logbook of all testing conducted at the lab, plant, and on-site, as well as all HMA related observations throughout your shift.
Requirements
- Education: High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience.
- Radiation Safety Training Certificate.
- Work Experience: 1+ year of experience in Quality Control Testing within HMA is required; 2 years of QC experience within related industry is preferred.

- Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities: Quality tools and techniques, QA standards and procedures, Time management, Effective communicator (written and spoken), Detail oriented, Problem solving, Collaboration.
Skills
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for equipment servicing.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, and reach.
- Must have good depth perception with or without seeing aid for distances up to 150 feet.
- Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.
