About the role

The Quality Control Technician ensures food safety and quality by coaching employees on GMP, HACCP, food safety, and food quality standards. This role involves participating in process audits, managing non-conforming products, and maintaining and improving HACCP and production records.

Responsibilities

  • Coach employees on GMP, HACCP, food safety, and food quality standards.
  • Participate in process auditory meetings.
  • File and follow up on vendor complaints.
  • Manage and contain non-conforming product.
  • Maintain and improve HACCP and production records.
  • Calibrate equipment to ensure food safety and product quality.
  • Conduct sensory evaluation of products and ingredients.
  • Conduct swab testing on production surfaces, including APC, Charm, and EB.
  • Implement USDA, FDA, and relevant international regulatory and customer compliance requirements.
  • Inspect labels and packaging.
  • Complete long-term project improvement work.
  • Participate in internal quality audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related science field REQUIRED.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, database systems, email, and internet.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work activities.
  • Ability to read charts and graphs.
  • Strong root-cause analysis skills.
  • Detail-oriented and deadline-oriented.

Skills

  • Previous experience as a Quality Technician or in Food Manufacturing is a plus.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Interest in food, prior restaurant experience, or food handling experience is advantageous.
  • Must be able to taste food without allergies.

Work Environment

The work environment is divided evenly between production and a quality office setting. The primary working hours are Monday through Thursday from 7 AM to 5:30 PM, with potential variations based on team needs and overtime as needed.

Pay

$24.00 - $24.00/hr.

This is a Contract to Hire, fully onsite position based in DeKalb, IL.
