About the role

The Quality Control Technician, under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, works toward assuring the quality of products made at the plant. This position conducts laboratory tests to ensure products meet specifications (i.e., ASTM, AASHTO).

Responsibilities

• Perform chemical and/or physical tests on raw materials and fuels to determine their quality.
• Comply with all applicable safety and environmental policies and procedures.
• Engage in the See Stop Do culture, following all safety procedures, proactively stopping the job, and reporting unsafe conditions, hazards, or concerns.
• Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
• Understand, evaluate, and monitor hazards in the laboratory or the plant.
• Perform regularly scheduled sampling and analyses as established by the laboratory.
• Monitor and change process/quality parameters.
• Notify the Site Manager of any out-of-specification samples or problems.
• Maintain a high level of communication between the production and quality departments.
• Assist the production department in emergencies, as needed.
• Maintain a clean work area and assist in other housekeeping responsibilities.
• Prepare samples as needed for chemical and physical testing.
• Operate, cross-check, and perform minor repairs to laboratory equipment.
• Maintain laboratory inventory of chemical solutions.
• Maintain logs and quality analysis reports as specified.
• Additional duties as assigned by manager.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent is preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of experience performing relevant tests in a cement laboratory environment preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
• Knowledge of chemical testing, including wet chemical analysis, and physical testing procedures.
• Ability to develop and follow comprehensive technical directions.
• Ability to operate all laboratory equipment, including balances, muffle furnace, physical testing equipment, and laboratory computer.

Work Environment

• Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant.
• Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures.
• Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height.
• Exposure to all weather conditions.
• Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
