General Description
The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day shop floor operations while ensuring all products meet internal quality standards and customer requirements. This is a hands-on role focused on supervision, inspection, documentation, and direct involvement in quality control activities from in-process checks through final customer reports.
Responsibilities
- Shop Floor Supervision
- Supervise daily shop operations and production activities
- Assign work, set priorities, and balance workloads
- Maintain a strong hands-on presence on the shop floor
- Ensure work is performed according to drawings, procedures, and specifications
- Resolve production and quality issues in real time
- Quality Control
- Perform and oversee in-process and final inspections
- Verify parts and assemblies meet specifications, blueprints, and customer requirements
- Use inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools
- Identify defects, non-conformances, and quality trends
- Initiate corrective actions and work with operators to prevent repeat issues
- Maintain accurate inspection records and quality documentation
- Customer Reporting & Documentation
- Create, maintain, and review in-process inspection reports
- Prepare final inspection and quality reports for customers
- Ensure all reports are accurate, complete, and meet customer and contractual requirements
- Compile inspection data, measurements, and certifications as required
- Support customer audits, quality reviews, and documentation requests
- Communicate quality results and concerns to management and customers as needed
- Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safety rules and proper PPE usage
- Promote a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions
- Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulations
- People Leadership
- Train and coach operators on quality standards and inspection methods
- Provide feedback on performance and quality expectations
- Support onboarding and training of new employees
- Maintain consistent communication between shop floor and management
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and workflow
- Reduce scrap, rework, and customer returns
- Support Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with management, engineering, and quality teams
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or production shop floor environment. Prior experience in quality control, product inspection, or shop floor supervision is preferred. Experience working within an ISO-certified manufacturing environment is preferred.
