Position Summary
The Quality Control Manager is responsible for overseeing all quality control functions within a precision honing machine and tool manufacturing environment. This role ensures that products meet internal specifications, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards.
Essential Functions Of The Job
- Oversee and manage daily inspection activities for incoming materials, in-process components, and finished honing machines/tools.
- Develop, implement, and maintain QC procedures, inspection plans, and work instructions based on engineering specifications and customer requirements.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (RCA/CAPA) to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence.
- Maintain calibration programs for gauges, metrology equipment, and inspection tools.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and suppliers to improve product quality, reduce scrap, and ensure consistent process control.
Position Qualification Requirements
- Strong knowledge of precision machining processes (especially honing), geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T), and complex mechanical inspection methods.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and detailed engineering specifications.
- Proficiency with metrology tools such as CMMs, air gauges, surface finish testers, bore gauges, micrometers, and height gauges.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage workloads, and coach inspectors in proper inspection and documentation methods.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills, including experience with non-conformance reporting and root-cause methodologies (5 Why, Fishbone, DMAIC).
Education/License(s)/Certification(s)
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Quality-related certifications preferred (e.g., ASQ CQI, CQT, CQA, CQE).
- Training in SPC, ISO 9001 systems, and/or metrology practices highly beneficial.
Experience
- 5–10 years of progressively responsible experience in quality control or quality assurance within a precision machining, honing, tooling, or related manufacturing environment.
- At least 2–3 years in a supervisory or team-lead role.
