Quality Control Manager

About the role

Akima Facilities Operations (AFO) is seeking a Quality Control Manager to support Letterkenny's Depot mission of repairing and modernizing U.S. weapons, air and missile defense systems, and the supporting infrastructure. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of industrial mission-critical environments. You will oversee all contract quality requirements, ensuring services and deliverables meet established standards through regular inspections, performance monitoring, and compliance verification. Proactively identify issues, facilitate corrective actions, and engage with project leadership to maintain consistent, high-quality performance across the program.

Responsibilities

• Manages the Quality Assurance Department and associated functions.
• Responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, continual improvement, and management of the Quality Assurance (QA) Program and Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001.
• Develops, establishes, implements, and continually improves a compliant Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001 within all departments on the project, including evaluation, monitoring, auditing, and analysis to validate effective implementation and operation.
• Evaluates the overall performance of all departments based on ISO requirements, statutory and regulatory requirements, PWS (contractual) requirements, and QMS requirements.
• May develop procedures, work instructions, and other documents to enhance functions and increase compliance with ISO.
• Develops and implements an internal audit program and evaluates audit findings and results.
• Coordinates with department managers and supervisors for completion of Corrective and Preventive Action Reports (CARs and PARs) in accordance with applicable procedures.
• Monitors and assists with resolving corrective and preventive actions as necessary.
• Performs independent analysis, determines scope and course of action required, and develops plans to resolve problems.
• Conducts analysis and review of problems to determine root cause and identifies areas for improvement, initiating Opportunities for Improvement (OFIs) in accordance with applicable procedures.
• Conducts process and product measurements and analysis in accordance with ISO 9001.
• Interprets engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
• Uses quality measurement tools, gauges, and statistical process control (SPC) techniques.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Industrial Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• 5–10 years of quality assurance/quality control experience in a manufacturing, depot, or industrial production environment.
• Strong understanding of ISO 9001, Lean Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies; certification (LSSGB/LSSBB) preferred.
• Proven experience with inspection processes, quality audits, root-cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) development.
• Familiarity with DoD depot operations, technical data packages (TDPs), and military quality standards (e.g., MIL-STD series) highly desirable.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
• Skilled in the use of quality measurement tools, gauges, and statistical process control (SPC) techniques.
• Strong data analysis and reporting abilities, including trend identification and performance metrics.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and leadership skills with the ability to train teams and interface with Government representatives.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment while ensuring strict adherence to safety and quality standards.
• Secret Clearance required.
