About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Quality Control Manager or Lead Inspector to lead quality operations within our machine shop. This working manager role blends active inspection and technical involvement with team leadership and process oversight, ensuring products consistently meet customer expectations, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Role Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality procedures, inspection plans, and standards while staying actively involved in daily inspections.
- Hands-on inspection of incoming materials, in-process production, and finished goods using precision measuring equipment.
- Skilled in manual inspection, able to train others in inspection methods, and responsible for leading the quality team by managing workflow, setting priorities, and providing technical guidance.
- Preparing, submitting, and supporting First Article Inspections (FAIs), reviewing inspection and production data to identify trends, and driving root cause analysis and corrective actions for nonconforming material.
- Close collaboration with production, engineering, and management to improve processes, reduce scrap, and strengthen overall product quality.
- Accurate documentation of inspections, nonconformances, audits, and quality metrics is required, along with ensuring compliance to customer requirements, AS9100 standards, and applicable regulations.
Qualifications
- A minimum of five years of quality control or quality assurance experience in a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
- A strong understanding of machining processes, GD&T, and inspection methods is required, along with a working knowledge of CMMs, micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and similar equipment.
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and tolerances is essential.
- Experience with ISO 9001 or comparable quality management systems is preferred, as are strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- Preferred Experience: Experience leading or mentoring a quality or inspection team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, along with familiarity with ERP or quality management software.
