Quality Control Manager

About the role
This position ensures all processes and procedures adhere to contract requirements, project specifications, and standard operating procedures. The Project Quality Manager leads, monitors, and analyzes project quality activities, implementing corrective and preventive actions to comply with and continuously improve Ames’ Quality Management System. This role may focus on a single project or support multiple projects in a given area.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the development of the Project Quality Plan.
- Communicate and implement the plan, ensuring compliance with Ames’ Quality Management System and project-specific requirements.
- Ensure corrective actions are completed in a timely manner and verify their effectiveness.
- Report and manage nonconformances, including deficiencies and NCRs.
- Identify, document, and mitigate potential quality risks through pre-activity meetings and project quality walks.
- Review work plans and supplemental documents to ensure quality activities are incorporated.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with Ames’ QMS and project-specific requirements.
- Work with cross-functional teams to resolve quality-related issues and ensure timely resolution.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all quality documents and records.
- Coordinate and ensure compliance of third-party testing and inspection personnel.
- Foster and promote strong client relationships through open and transparent communication.
- Drive a continuous improvement culture by identifying and implementing best practices.
- Document project quality activities and performance at defined intervals.
- Train project team(s) on applicable QMS processes, including tools and system support.
- Report on project KPIs to measure quality performance.
- Investigate and resolve quality issues with vendors (suppliers and subcontractors).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or relevant work experience.
- 2-5 years of relevant technical, quality, or construction experience.
- Knowledge of construction standards/specifications (USACE, DOT, ASTM, ACI, AASHTO) preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems collaboratively.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency.
- High attention to detail and ability to recognize deficiencies.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize workload.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adjust priorities based on evolving project changes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Outlook, SharePoint, and Project Management software.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass MVR.
Working Conditions
- Travel: 50-80% if supporting multiple projects; 100% in-person support for a single project.
- Office environment: Extensive sitting at desk and computer; occasional standing, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting (5-20 pounds).
- Construction site environment: Physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach, and climb; exposure to high noise levels.
- Weather exposure: Full-day exposure to all weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, dry, humid, windy).
This position requires ensuring compliance with CMMC, FAR, and Accounting Standards in all Federal efforts.
