Quality Control Laboratory Manager

About the Role

As a Quality Control Laboratory Manager in Manufacturing, you will manage and control all daily operations in the QC Lab. You will oversee staff that manufactures, processes, and performs testing on pathogen-reduced platelet blood products for release to area hospitals. This role includes managing manufacturing and logistics operations, staff, assigned volunteers, budgets, environment, and work processes while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and Red Cross directives, policies, and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Manage laboratory staff and volunteers, including hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, and disciplining to ensure a well-qualified team and operational success.
• Serve as a resource for supervisors on complex technical issues.
• Ensure all functions comply with applicable regulatory policies and procedures to meet customer needs.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, regional policies, and procedures; coordinate implementation of new or revised tests, procedures, and equipment with SOPs, CFR, and OSHA regulations.
• Ensure laboratory training and annual competency assessments are completed in compliance with established guidelines.
• May act as a trainer for department-specific curricula.
• Manage and evaluate workflow, distribution routes, and processes to ensure efficient manufacturing to meet customer demand and timelines cost-effectively.
• Document, investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve department problems, concerns, and complaints; lead suspect product investigations.
• Perform supervisory review of documents.
• May track, trend, and analyze laboratory data and generate reports.
• Serve as a departmental expert on applicable computer systems; ensure accuracy of computer and physical blood component inventories.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an applied science required.
• 5 years of related experience with laboratory experience.
• 3 years of supervisory or management experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Good communication skills and the ability to interact with diverse customers.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Must meet state and CLIA requirements.
• Knowledge of blood products and supplies and ability to use a wide variety of lab/medical equipment preferred.
• MT (ASCP) certifications or equivalent is a plus.

Schedule

Standard schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Flexibility to work and engage with employees across all shifts in a 24/7 operation is required. Must be able to train on first shift for approximately 6-8 weeks.

Pay

$92,000+ depending on relevant experience.
