About the role

The Quality Control Inspector Lead will provide daily direction to quality control inspectors and material receiving inspectors, assigning activities, escalating issues to the Quality Supervisor, and training new hires on quality control procedures and standards. The role manages and coordinates quality control activities and projects, motivates the team to meet quality goals, and develops, implements, and maintains quality control processes and systems. The lead assists upper management in enforcing compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and procedures, identifies improvement areas, conducts audits and inspections, implements corrective actions, maintains accurate records, reviews quality reports, ensures documentation compliance, communicates findings to stakeholders, and collaborates with other departments to uphold quality standards. Additional responsibilities include interpreting drawings and specifications, preparing nonconformance reports, participating in root cause investigations, assisting in personnel training, reviewing Inspection and Test Plans, coordinating with third-party inspections, and conducting daily safety/quality meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Train new hires on quality control procedures and standards
  • Manage and coordinate quality control activities and projects
  • Motivate and empower the team to achieve quality goals
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality control processes and systems
  • Assist upper management in enforcing and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and procedures
  • Identify areas for improvement in quality control processes and systems
  • Conduct quality audits and inspections to identify and address potential issues
  • Implement corrective actions to address quality issues
  • Maintain accurate and complete quality records
  • Review quality reports and ensure compliance with documentation requirements
  • Communicate quality issues and findings to relevant stakeholders
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure quality standards are met
  • Provide feedback to improve quality and processes
  • Interpret drawings, procedures, instructions, and specifications to determine product acceptance
  • Prepare nonconformance reports for defects and participate in root cause investigations to eliminate recurrence
  • Assist in the training of other personnel as required by management or specific tasks
  • Review Inspection and Test Plans as required
  • Coordinate with third-party inspections
  • Conduct daily safety/quality meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience in quality assurance, quality control, or quality management
  • Minimum of two years of experience with ISO-9000 or similar quality management systems
  • Minimum of one year of experience with ASME Section VIII, IX, V, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.5, ASME B31.9, AWS D1.1, SSPC, or similar welding, construction, and quality codes
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Ability to obtain Visual/Magnetic Testing Level II certification within six months of employment

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Applied Science or any other relevant field (engineering, science, quality management) is a plus
  • Qualifications in NDE methods or a Certified Level II ISO 9001 trained candidate is preferred

Skills

  • Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, time management, and communication/writing skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Google Docs
  • Knowledge of quality control processes, procedures, ISO9001, and tools
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures, and specifications
  • Ability to communicate clearly, written and verbal, with various levels of management, customers, vendors, and other employees
  • Ability to use basic mathematics in all units of measure, including whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve quality issues by performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Ability to analyze data and identify trends
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in the accomplishment of duties
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and ensure accuracy

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally and/or a negligible amount of weight frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body
  • Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, stooping, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions
  • Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception, and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and read and understand English
  • Subject to shop environmental conditions
