About the role
The CDL Quality Control (QC) Driver is responsible for ensuring that all trucks meet customer expectations, DOT compliance, and company quality standards. This role also verifies that all repairs performed in the Service Department are completed accurately and within the approved estimate.
Responsibilities
- Reviews work orders and notes from MVASIST to confirm repairs performed on the vehicle.
- Performs a walk-around inspection to ensure there are no loose items, grease stains, scratches, or damaged components.
- Tops off fluids as needed before road testing (engine oil, coolant, etc.).
- Inspects repairs to verify OEM guidelines have been followed.
- Checks for loose wiring, clamps, and hoses around the area of repair.
- Confirms that all parts listed on the work order have been installed.
- Ensures no active fault codes remain after repairs are completed; verifies the shop foreman has been informed.
- Performs road tests to confirm drivability and identify any remaining faults, warning lights, or performance issues before returning the unit to service.
- Rechecks for leaks, codes, or other issues after testing.
- Records the parking location of the unit.
- Completes the QC checklist, signs off on it, and attaches it to the case.
- Communicates with the shop foreman when issues are found during quality control inspection.
- Picks up and delivers trucks as needed to support service operations, customer needs, and overall shop workflow.
- Performs quality inspection and test drives on new trucks; fills out corresponding paperwork as instructed.
- Regularly monitors the lot to ensure trucks are properly parked and organized; proactively rearranges units as needed to maintain a safe, orderly layout.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), minimum Class B.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technicians, foremen, and service management.
- Must maintain a professional demeanor and represent Nextran’s values during customer or vendor interactions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain seated while driving for extended periods during test drives.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds independently.
- Ability to push, pull, or maneuver items weighing up to 150 pounds using carts, dollies, or other assistive devices.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, and handling parts during inspections and loading/unloading.
- Ability to move throughout the shop, yard, and customer locations as needed.
- Visual acuity is sufficient to detect defects, leaks, and safety concerns during inspection and road testing.
- Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to weather conditions during vehicle movement and testing.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in a dealership service environment, including shop, yard, and customer locations.
- The role involves exposure to moderate noise, moving vehicles, and outdoor conditions.
- The QC Driver regularly interacts with technicians, foremen, and service management to ensure quality standards are met.
- Safety gear and adherence to company safety protocols are required at all times.
