Key Responsibilities

  • Field Construction Interpret contract plans and specifications for roadway and bridge construction to ensure contract compliance.
  • Verify the quality of the field tested materials incorporated into the project by the contractor, such as soil, crushed aggregates; Portland Concrete and Asphalt Concrete are within specifications.
  • Inspect the quality of materials being placed and the contractor methods of construction to ensure compliance to specifications.
  • Suspend work on projects for non-specification procedures and non-specification materials until the Project Manager is notified.
  • Communicate action taken to project inspector, PM and other appropriate personnel.
  • Assure that the Contractors Quality Compliance program meets required standards for all projects assigned to the Project Manager’s office.
  • Randomly inspect for proper sampling and testing procedures and confirms technician certifications.
  • Assures product compliance samples are collected and submitted to construction section.
  • Prepare and maintain the test summary for materials on each project including but not limited to supporting data for semifinal submittal.
  • Review contractor’s and agency test results for completeness, accuracy and acceptability.
  • Verify the quality and acceptability of construction materials and authorize that they be entered into the contract payment system.
  • Ensure tests are performed, documented and submitted to the Project Manager’s office in accordance to the specifications.
  • Review test data.
  • Calculate price adjustments for incorporated materials.
  • Review preliminary and advanced plans for appropriate material specifications.
  • Read and comprehend contract plans and specifications and appropriate guidelines for roadway and bridge construction in order to ensure contractor compliance.
  • Inspect and document work performed by contractors. Also has authority to suspend non-specification procedures until the Project Manager is notified.
  • Check quality and quantity of materials received on the project by the contractor, such as pipe, guardrail, reinforcing steel, and landscaping items.
  • Prepare appropriate paperwork.
  • Measure and write pay notes for construction pay items and compute quantities.
  • Quality Assurance
  • Calculate and verify material quantities using calculators, computer, and engineering principles to determine and check field notes for correct pay and quantities.
  • Aid the contract payments specialist with the following duties:
  • Prepare contract quality and quantity documentation for final submittal.
  • Ensure all quality documentation is complete and complies with specifications.
  • Prepare final contract quality documentation and checks final contract estimates for completeness and determination of final contract costs.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years experience with asphalt, concrete, aggregate, or soil materials testing.
  • Preferred Qualifications: 5 years of previous experience with ODOT Quality Control/Assurance testing, or Quality Control/Assurance oversight.
  • Experience working on ODOT projects as a Quality Control Compliance Specialist
