Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer - NASA Cargo
Job Description
The Cargo Mission Contract team currently has an opening for a Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer in the Webster, Texas office. This is an exciting opportunity to work on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Cargo Mission Contract. From hardware and experiments to toothpaste and food, the International Space Station (ISS) crew requires a steady stream of supplies via NASA’s Cargo Mission Contract. Our team plans, processes, and packs critical cargo to keep the orbiting outpost fully stocked.
As a QA Engineer, you will apply quality evaluation methods and protocols for processing/fabricating finished products. The role requires collaboration with project engineering to ensure quality standards are in place and met; including implementing methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating products and hardware equipment deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads quality efforts for assigned hardware project development efforts
- Utilizes competencies/knowledge of systems, hardware, operations, configuration management, root cause analysis to drive quality excellence.
- Assure compliance to process and product requirements,
- Assure project documentation is compliant with company and program requirements, objectives, and standards
- Review design, change specifications, materials, tools, techniques, methodologies, and plans against contractual and process requirements
- Oversee the delivery/acceptance process for documentation and products submitted to the Customer
- Audit quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
- Ensure that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelors Degree
- Year(s) of Experience: 2+ years of prior relevant experience or 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
- Minimum Citizenship: U.S. Citizen
- Required Skills and Traits:
- Experience with hardware development and multi-discipline background
- Experience resolving complex and multi-dimensional problems
- Communicates with internal and external parties to agree upon concepts, practices, and approaches to resolve issues on projects
- Product inspection and test process knowledge
- Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
- Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma practices
- Experience providing technical advice/input
- Works under very general supervision. Self-motivated individual with proven interpersonal skills; supporting frequent interactions with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Program and Customer personnel)
- Able to use measuring tools to support machined parts measurement verification
- Able to utilize electronic measuring equipment for testing verification
- NASA Workmanship Certifications or ability to obtain
- Working knowledge of MS Office 2016 products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability and willingness to obtain OSHA and EH&S certification
- Ability and willingness to cross-train in other departments and responsibilities
- Experience using NASA processes and software/tools
- Experience supporting site hardware
- Experience working on NASA programs
- Shared document repository experience (using SharePoint)
- Experience working in a dynamic team environment, participating in process improvement initiatives, and driving organizational culture changes
