About The Role

The Quality Assurance Engineer will play a pivotal role within the Division of Information Technology Services (ITS) by establishing and maintaining quality assurance standards and testing protocols. This hybrid role, based in Denver, CO, involves working closely with project teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality software and systems. The ideal candidate will develop comprehensive test plans, execute manual and automated testing procedures, and analyze test results to identify defects and areas for improvement. They will be responsible for ensuring that all applications—whether developed in-house or purchased as commercial off-the-shelf (COTS)—meet business requirements, system goals, and end-user expectations. The QA Engineer will also collaborate with software and systems engineers to promote quality coding standards, participate in the development of automation frameworks, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires a proactive approach to testing, defect management, and stakeholder communication, ensuring seamless integration and deployment of technological solutions.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and three years of relevant quality assurance or automated testing experience.
  • OR three years of experience as a Business Analyst or Software Engineer within the Colorado Judicial Department.
  • Additional work experience in related fields may substitute for formal education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Proficiency in Agile development methodologies (4-6 years).
  • Proficient in JavaScript and JSON (4-6 years).
  • Basic knowledge of IBM DB2 UDB (1-3 years).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (4-6 years).
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills (4-6 years).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and establish quality assurance standards, testing protocols, and best practices for new and existing applications.
  • Create detailed test plans, test cases, and scenarios translating business and functional requirements.
  • Execute manual and automated test cases to validate software functionality and system integration.
  • Analyze test results to identify defects, bugs, and system errors, and document findings thoroughly.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure adherence to QA standards and promote quality coding practices.
  • Recommend and implement automation strategies for repetitive testing tasks to improve efficiency.
  • Perform regression, load, and system testing across various environments.
  • Assist in the installation and configuration of applications, ensuring smooth deployment processes.
  • Provide advanced Tier III support to internal customers and stakeholders.
  • Review documentation and technical specifications to understand application architecture and functionality.
  • Contribute to the development of change control processes, ensuring smooth updates and upgrades.
  • Participate in peer reviews of testing efforts to ensure quality and consistency across teams.
  • Communicate testing progress, issues, and results to project stakeholders and management.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to enhancing testing strategies.
  • Document and share knowledge within the ITS' IT Service Management system to foster continuous learning.
  • Attend meetings, training sessions, and perform other related duties as assigned.
