About the role

The Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) will assist adults and children in the Denton County area who struggle with depression, anxiety, anger, and emotional and behavioral issues. The primary focus for adults is to teach them functional living skills, locate community resources, and offer support. For children, the focus is on increasing appropriate communication, problem-solving, anger management, social skills, and interpersonal interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strengths-based trainings using evidence-based curriculums to help clients develop and build necessary skills.
  • Work with Case Managers to provide services including skill training, medication support, and crisis intervention.
  • Implement and adhere to the Service/Treatment Plan focusing on client needs and strengths.
  • Document all crisis hours and maintain client documentation in the electronic record.
  • Maintain effective listening skills, establish rapport, provide emotional support, and engage family members in the service process.
  • Keep family and team members informed about progress towards achieving Service Plan goals.
  • Assist clients with daily living tasks such as behavior management, counseling, budget management, and independent transportation.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and support systems to ensure client needs are met.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners.
  • Teach clients effective communication, problem-solving, and anger management techniques.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Has a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum number of hours equivalent to a major in psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human growth and development, physician assistant, gerontology, special education, educational psychology, early childhood education, or early childhood intervention.
  • A registered nurse with at least 2 years of experience providing therapeutic services for children/adolescents with behavioral challenges on an intensive level.
