Qualified Mental Health Professional 9-P11 (LPC, MSW, Social Worker)

About the Role

The Corrections Qualified Mental Health Professional functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team providing professional treatment services to mentally ill and/or mentally disabled prisoners within the Michigan Department of Corrections. They work with hospitalized, medically ill, and other special populations, handling all aspects of mental health evaluation, referral, treatment, and monitoring of prisoners to ensure continuity of care.

The role involves conducting psychosocial assessments and evaluations, interventions, consultations, and referral services. Additionally, the professional assists with prisoner placement and obtaining services upon discharge to the community.

Responsibilities

• Provide a full range of professional mental health treatment services as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Conduct mental health evaluations and refer prisoners to appropriate levels of care.
• Monitor prisoner progress and ensure continuity of care.
• Perform psychosocial assessments, interventions, consultations, and referrals.
• Assist with prisoner placement and obtaining community services upon discharge.
• Work with hospitalized, medically ill, and other special populations.

Requirements

• Possession of a master's degree with a major in psychology, social work, or counseling.
• Possession of a Michigan license in good standing to practice as a psychologist, social worker, or counselor.
• Experience requirements vary by level:
  • Corrections Qualified Mental Health Professional 9: No specific experience required.
  • Corrections Qualified Mental Health Professional 10: One year of professional experience providing QMHP services equivalent to a Corrections Qualified Mental Health Professional 9.
  • Corrections Qualified Mental Health Professional P11: Two years of professional experience providing QMHP services, including one year equivalent to a Corrections Qualified Mental Health Professional 10.
• Subject to pre-appointment, random-selection, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
• Applicants convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.

All required documents, including official college transcripts indicating the specific type of degree earned and the conferred/graduation date, must be attached and submitted at the time of application.
