About the role
CT State Community College is seeking a skilled and dependable Qualified Craft Worker (HVACR) to join our facilities team. This role involves supporting our mission to provide a welcoming environment for learning and growth by performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
Responsibilities
- Independently perform a full range of highly skilled duties in the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment and systems.
- Operate, maintain, repair, install, modify, and assemble air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and systems.
- Control and measure air flow, room air changes, and room pressurizing.
- Monitor computerized control systems.
- Add water treatment chemicals to boilers.
- Make estimates of time, personnel, and determine and obtain required materials on assigned tasks.
- Keep necessary records.
- May perform duties related to similar trade areas as required.
- May install, modify, repair, and assemble electrical or pneumatic controls for this type of equipment.
- Inspect and repair steam traps fed by main system at various locations.
- Remove pipe insulation materials associated with repair of pipes and fittings using OSHA approved methods.
- Act as liaison with other operating units and outside contacts.
- Operate heavy equipment.
- Respond to fire and/or crash emergency situations at state owned airports.
- Perform related duties as required.
Requirements
- Four (4) years of experience in tasks in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration trade.
- Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been performing skilled heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration trades.
- Graduation from a vocational or technical school with a diploma designating completion of subject requirements in a maintenance trade area may be substituted for two (2) years of the General Experience.
- Two (2) years of experience as a Qualified Craft Worker Trainee in a designated maintenance trade area may be substituted for the General and Special Experience.
- Experience performing technical duties within the HVACR trade area on a military base, aircraft carrier, or large compound may be substituted for the General and Special Experience on a year for year basis.
Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply standard tools, materials, methods, and standard HVACR trade practices.
- Skills in interpersonal, oral, and written communication.
- Ability to prepare estimates and keep shop records.
- Utilize computer software.
Skills
- Knowledge of HVACR trade practices and codes.
- Ability to operate and maintain HVACR equipment and systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair HVACR systems.
- Ability to install, modify, and assemble HVACR equipment and systems.
- Ability to monitor and control HVACR systems.
- Ability to add water treatment chemicals to boilers.

Pay
Full-time, 40 hours per week. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Schedule
Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 12:00pm - 8:30pm; Friday & Saturday 7:00am - 3:30pm. Mixed Office: Maintenance. Location: 170 Elm Street Enfield, CT 06082.
