About the role
We are seeking an experienced Automation Quality Engineer (QE) with strong expertise in test automation using Selenium and Cucumber. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable automation frameworks and ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of applications throughout the software development lifecycle. The role requires strong hands-on automation experience, programming skills, knowledge of modern testing methodologies, and the ability to collaborate effectively with developers, product owners, business analysts, and other QE engineers in an Agile environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain robust test automation frameworks using Selenium and Cucumber.
- Develop automated functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end test suites for web-based applications.
- Create and maintain BDD feature files and scenarios using Gherkin/Cucumber based on business and functional requirements.
- Develop reusable automation components, utilities, page objects, and test libraries.
- Execute automated test suites, analyze failures, identify root causes, and communicate defects to development teams.
- Integrate automated test suites with CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing and faster feedback.
- Collaborate with developers, product owners, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and define appropriate test strategies.
- Participate in requirement reviews, design discussions, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and other Agile ceremonies.
- Identify appropriate candidates for automation and continuously improve automation coverage.
- Perform API and service-level testing and validate integrations between application components.
- Develop and maintain test data required for automated and manual testing.
- Perform database validation using SQL queries where required.
- Track defects through resolution and perform regression testing to validate fixes.
- Analyze automation execution results and provide clear quality metrics and test reports.
- Troubleshoot complex application and automation issues using logs, debugging tools, and other diagnostic techniques.
- Conduct code reviews for automation scripts and ensure adherence to coding standards and automation best practices.
- Continuously improve test frameworks, processes, execution efficiency, reliability, and maintainability.
- Work closely with engineering teams to promote shift-left testing and quality engineering practices throughout the SDLC.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience in Quality Engineering, Software Testing, and Test Automation.
- Strong experience with Selenium WebDriver for web application automation.
- Strong experience with Cucumber and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD).
- Proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Java.
- Strong understanding of Gherkin syntax, feature files, step definitions, hooks, and Cucumber test execution.
- Experience designing and maintaining automation frameworks using patterns such as Page Object Model (POM).
- Experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit or TestNG.
- Experience with build and dependency-management tools such as Maven or Gradle.
- Experience with REST API testing using tools/frameworks such as REST Assured, Postman, or equivalent.
- Experience working with Git-based source control and branching strategies.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar platforms.
- Good understanding of SQL and relational databases for backend data validation.
- Strong understanding of software testing concepts, including functional, regression, integration, end-to-end, smoke, and negative testing.
- Understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and SDLC/STLC processes.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
