About the role
Weyerhaeuser is offering a $1,500 hiring bonus (additional details provided at time of interview/offer). The hourly rate is $36.86. This position is based at the Kalispell Complex in Montana, known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Assist operators with the manufacturing of high-quality plywood and lumber in North America.
- Act as product ambassadors, ensuring products meet APA and PLIB specifications and customer requirements.
- Interact daily with operators, customers, distributors, certifiers, and sales and management teams to ensure product quality.
- Monitor and record product quality, conduct audits of final products, and perform grade inspections.
- Build or develop understanding of the drying process of lumber and veneer.
- Conduct daily audits of lumber, size checks, and stack lumber (both rough and finished grades).
- Propose strategies to reduce costs and improve procedures.
- Manage the quality of the lumber and plywood business to meet strategic production goals.
- Test products to determine quality based on APA/PLIB and customer specifications.
- Learn lumber grades, panel grades, and veneer thicknesses.
- Obtain and maintain APA/PLIB certifications.
- Support, coach, and develop new hires, operators, and team members regarding quality expectations.
- Oversee inventory tracking using SAP, recording deliveries, production, and stock levels.
- Evaluate product levels to improve inventory control procedures.
- Analyze daily product levels to anticipate inventory problems and shortages.
- Communicate with employees to meet business goals and address inventory issues.
- Report on inventory levels and procedural efficiency to upper management.
- Provide expert advice to the management team regarding production performance and conditions.
- Determine Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for issues occurring during the production process.
- Visit customers and assess claims.
Requirements
- A minimum of three plus years of experience in industrial panel or lumber production or quality assurance.
- A minimum of five years of specialized experience in plywood or lumber production, strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively with others to accomplish group objectives.
- Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and achieve goals in a timely manner.
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to build and maintain long-term relationships.
- Clear and concise communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency in business productivity and analysis tools, including MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint).
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Quality Assurance, Management, or a related field preferred.
Skills
- Understanding of the manufacturing of wood products.
- Ability to read product defects to understand the origin of boards.
- Knowledge of lumber grades, panel grades, and veneer thicknesses.
- APA/PLIB certifications.
- Leadership and technical capabilities.
- Ability to grow and develop as a future leader.
- Supervisory experience in various departments.
