QA Engineer
About the role
Casper (Casper.com) believes everyone should sleep better. That’s why we obsess over designing sleep products that actually make a difference—from the littlest dreamers and beyond. Including mattresses, pillows, and bedding, our entire collection is dreamed up and engineered in-house by our product and design teams. Sleepers can shop online, visit one of our 40+ retail locations across the United States, or find us through a growing network of trusted retail partners.
We're looking for a QA Engineer to join our Quality Engineering team and own functional and end‑to‑end testing across our systems. You'll report directly to the QA Manager and help ensure consistent, reliable quality across our systems. This is a hybrid role, requiring that you work 4 days per week from our Richmond, VA office.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute functional and end‑to‑end test cases across web and back‑end systems, covering happy paths, edge cases, and negative scenarios
- Own test planning for features and releases — clear, traceable test plans and test cases tied to requirements
- Perform exploratory testing to surface issues that scripted cases miss
- Validate complex, cross‑system workflows across multiple interconnected platforms
- Test and validate workflows across SaaS applications commonly used in e‑commerce, Shopify, OMS, Salesforce, and ERP environments
- Detect, isolate, reproduce, and document defects with clarity and insight
- Contribute to our existing Playwright + TypeScript automation framework, starting with the most repetitive or highest‑risk manual cases
- Write and maintain automated test scripts using Playwright and TypeScript, following our existing Page Object Model patterns
- Get hands‑on with our automation suite — running, debugging, and extending existing Playwright tests as you build up your automation skill set
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and stakeholders to understand requirements and ensure proper test coverage
- Write documentation for test cases and workflows to support long‑term scalability
- Provide regular updates to the QA Manager on progress, risks, and opportunities for improvement
Requirements
- Strong in functional and end‑to‑end testing, with some hands‑on exposure to automation using Playwright and TypeScript
- Experience testing an e‑commerce or SaaS product — you understand order lifecycles, payment or fulfillment flows, and how integrations between systems break in non‑obvious ways
- Strong test case design and bug reporting skills — clear repro steps, good judgment on severity and priority
- A creative problem‑solver who thinks outside the box — not satisfied testing only what's written in the ticket
- Organized — able to juggle multiple test cycles and keep documentation current without letting anything slip
- Passionate about testing — you find real satisfaction in catching the thing nobody else caught, and it shows
- Comfortable with bug/task/test management tools such as JIRA and Coda
- Comfortable working across multiple interconnected systems and validating end‑to‑end workflows
- A clear communicator who collaborates closely with engineering, product, and DevOps
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with API testing tools such as Postman
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and how automated tests fit into them
- Familiarity with AWS resources
- Familiarity with AI‑driven workflows and tools like Copilot, Claude, Kiro, and Amazon Q Developer
- B.S. in Computer Science or a related field
Pay
Targeted Annual Base Salary Range: $90,000–$110,000 USD. Casper’s compensation philosophy ensures that the actual base salary is based on factors including but not limited to skills, education, experience, special training, time in position, and/or years of service.
Benefits
- Medical, vision, and dental insurance
- Paid Time Off
- Employee Discount on Casper products (with a few exceptions) and product discounts for friends and family
- Tuition reimbursement after one year of service
Schedule
