Python Developer / Prompt Engineer

About The Role

A strong candidate may have started as a software engineer (Go, Python, or Java), moved into cybersecurity engineering or application security, and developed an interest in AI and prompt engineering. The ideal hire understands both the cybersecurity context needed to create effective prompts and the engineering skills required to build the workflows, pipelines, databases, and evaluation frameworks that make AI solutions work in practice.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize AI prompts for cybersecurity-focused use cases.
• Build AI evaluation harnesses and testing frameworks to measure prompt effectiveness, accuracy, consistency, and security outcomes.
• Develop workflows and pipelines that integrate AI-generated outputs into enterprise security systems and databases.
• Research and operationalize AI-driven capabilities for attack surface discovery, vulnerability identification and validation, security control assessment, and defensive cyber operations.
• Create solutions that leverage AI to analyze security data sources, including SAST findings, DAST results, WAF telemetry, and attack surface intelligence data.
• Conduct research to assess and improve WAF effectiveness by simulating attack scenarios and validating detection coverage.
• Support perimeter scanning, cyber engineering initiatives, and security automation efforts.
• Develop methods for validating AI-generated findings while minimizing false positives.
• Partner closely with security engineers, developers, and security researchers to automate manual analysis processes.
• Evaluate emerging AI technologies and frontier models, comparing performance and identifying opportunities to improve cybersecurity operations.
• Build and maintain integrations between AI systems, cybersecurity tools, databases, and analytics platforms.

Qualifications

The strongest candidates will not be prompt engineers only. They should understand:

• How to write effective prompts
• How to build workflows and pipelines
• How to connect applications to databases
• How cybersecurity works in practice
• How to evaluate and operationalize AI solutions

A candidate with strong engineering and cybersecurity foundations who is curious about AI will likely be more successful than someone with prompt engineering experience alone. Typical progression: Software Engineer (Python/Go) ➜ Cybersecurity Engineer ➜ AI/Prompt Engineering.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Charlotte, NC. This is a hybrid position in Charlotte, NC (onsite 3x a week). W2 only – cannot do C2C or sponsor. This position is anticipated to close on Sep 18, 2026.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $83.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
