PWR Long Handle Tool Technician - Oconee Nuclear Outage

TNC Services, the services division of The Nuclear Company, supports America's existing nuclear fleet by delivering specialized maintenance, outage execution, technical expertise, and workforce solutions. This role supports a 27-day refueling outage at Oconee Nuclear Station.

About the role

The PWR Long Handle Tool Technician will support reactor services and maintenance activities during the outage. This specialized, hands-on role requires prior commercial nuclear experience and direct experience performing long-handle tooling work. Technicians will safely set up, assemble, operate, inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain long-handle tooling and associated equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, set up, operate, inspect, and disassemble long-handle tooling and associated equipment in support of outage activities.
• Perform hands-on work using specialized long-handle tooling for reactor vessel, refueling, maintenance, inspection, retrieval, component handling, and related activities.
• Read and follow approved procedures, work packages, drawings, and site-specific instructions.
• Inspect tooling before, during, and after use and identify damaged, worn, or improperly functioning equipment.
• Troubleshoot, adjust, maintain, and support repair of long-handle tooling and associated equipment as required.
• Maintain positive control and accountability of tools, components, and equipment throughout assigned work.
• Follow Foreign Material Exclusion (FME), radiological protection, human performance, safety, quality, and procedural requirements.
• Participate in pre-job briefs and coordinate closely with supervisors, craft personnel, Radiation Protection, and other outage teams to safely execute scheduled work.
• Support tool staging, equipment preparation, post-job activities, and work-area restoration.
• Maintain a strong focus on nuclear safety, procedural compliance, quality, and error prevention throughout all work activities.
• Work extended shifts, nights, weekends, and overtime as required by the outage schedule.
• Perform additional reactor services and outage support activities within training and qualification.

Requirements

• Prior commercial nuclear power plant experience is required.
• Prior hands-on experience assembling, operating, handling, maintaining, or supporting long-handle tooling during commercial nuclear reactor or outage activities is required.
• Experience supporting PWR reactor services, refueling, reactor vessel, or related outage activities.
• Demonstrated knowledge of long-handle tooling practices, tool control, Foreign Material Exclusion (FME), radiological work practices, and procedural compliance.
• Ability to read and execute work instructions, procedures, drawings, and work packages.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely assemble, operate, inspect, and troubleshoot specialized reactor tooling.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary outage team in a highly procedural environment.
• Ability to work in radiologically controlled areas and meet applicable nuclear site access, training, and fitness-for-duty requirements.
• Ability to work demanding outage schedules, including extended shifts, nights, weekends, and overtime.
• Ability to travel to Oconee Nuclear Station for the scheduled assignment.

Pay

Approximately $55/hour. Travel time is paid at the applicable hourly rate for up to 12 hours each way. Mobilization per diem is paid at $68 or $200, based on the selected per diem option. Demobilization per diem is paid at $68.

Schedule

Temporary / Outage Assignment. Work extended shifts, nights, weekends, and overtime as required by the outage schedule.
