About the role

Purchasing Specialists work in the State's central purchasing agency in the Department of Accounting and General Services. They perform and/or supervise and manage the purchasing of a wide variety of goods and services for the departments throughout the State.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, clarify and specify requirements of products or scope of work for services to be performed.
  • Draft specifications for various methods of procurement and/or update such specifications to ensure their currency and applicability.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding the competitive procurement process.
  • Develop detailed, technical specifications.
  • Prepare appropriate specifications, terms and conditions.
  • Perform other related duties assigned.

Requirements

  • One and one-half years progressively responsible work experience in purchasing which involved working with users, vendors, contractors and service providers in identifying, clarifying and specifying requirements of products or scope of work for services to be performed.
  • Two and one-half years progressively responsible work experience in purchasing which involved drafting specifications for various methods of procurement and/or updating such specifications to ensure their currency and applicability.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university.

Skills

  • Understanding and use of common purchasing resources.
  • Knowledge and application of various methods of procurement processes.

  • Deferred Compensation: The State offers employees a voluntary pre-tax retirement savings plan designed to give employees a tax break today and an opportunity to build a retirement nest egg through voluntary payroll deductions.
  • Temporary Disability Insurance: Qualified employees may be eligible to receive benefits for a disability caused by a non-work related injury or illness under this program.
  • Social Security: As an employer, the State also contributes to an employee's social security account.

Pay

  • Level III: $5,248 to $6,393 per month (SR-20, Step D to I)
  • Level IV: $5,680 to $6,914 per month (SR-22, Step D to I)
