Purchasing Manager

About the Role

Oversee activities related to the timely, cost-effective procurement, inventory control, planning, and quality control of production materials. Develop policies and procedures and implement material control systems to reduce costs and streamline processes. Monitor the availability of materials in the supply chain and maintain inventory at minimum acceptable levels. Manage sourcing and supplying of raw materials, utilities, and outside services, as well as coordinate global procurement efforts. Review and plan requirements for acceptable inventory. May oversee work with customers in auditing customer inventory levels and with internal and external vendors to comply with inventory policies. Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure efficient operation of the function.

This role may also involve managing the planning, inventory, logistics, import/export, distribution, inventory control, and shipment of merchandise from vendors to retail store locations or the end customer.

Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors. Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Develops and manages operational initiatives to deliver tactical results. This role may evolve to include analysis requiring conceptual thinking and in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives. Problems are not clearly defined and lack strategic direction. Implements policies and selects methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Drives the strategy and success of larger projects that contribute to multiple areas of the organization.

Scope of Management

Manages the activities of multiple sections or a discipline through subordinate supervisors and/or professionals. Guides function or department practices and well-defined management precedents. Executes financials, business planning, organizational priorities, and workforce management. This role may expand to managing activities of two or more disciplines or a department, overseeing experienced professionals, and/or being responsible for subordinate managers. Frequently advises teams on moderately complex matters. Accountable for a department budget that may have a broad and far-reaching impact on the business segment.

Responsibilities

• Delegates and administers procurement functions; manages organization structure and personnel necessary to accomplish objectives.
• Ensures compliance with documented procedures and specific defense procurement regulations.
• Responsible for the overall performance of procurement functions and accountable for results.
• Provides internal feedback, ensures quality and accuracy of own work.
• Trains personnel on Syteline functions and maintains/develops purchasing procedures and reporting in Syteline.
• Communicates and collaborates effectively within facilities to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Responsible for documentation retention and organization for Military/SOC audit needs, including compliance with retention duration requirements.
• Participates in product line acquisition, including purchasing integration oversight, communication of procurement needs, and awareness of acquisition timelines.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5-8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years with a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
• Extensive experience or qualifications/certifications.
• May serve as a team or project leader but without direct people management accountability.
