Essential Functions

  • Purchasing of fasteners for resale.
  • Compliance with established purchasing policies.
  • Help establish and/or maintain proper replenishment levels of inventory.
  • Work with purchasing management to establish proper inventory levels.
  • Assist with mill direct purchases as needed and/or directed by Purchasing Manager.
  • Aid in writing, negotiating, and awarding stock & release contracts.
  • Responsible for releasing materials within stock & release contracts.
  • Absorb some or all non-inventory related purchases, including packaging material, pallets, cleaning, and paper products.
  • Collaborate with the receiving and warehouse manager to ensure materials returned to vendors promptly.
  • Maintain purchasing documents systematically and retrievably.
  • Communicate with sales and management about industry trends, new vendors, and new products.
  • Monitor freight issues and assign costs directly related to inventory.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of TFI software relevant to purchasing and recommend new software applications.
  • Verify requisitions for appropriate approvals and account numbers.
  • Collaborate with the receiving department to ensure proper supplies arrive.
  • Trace delinquent arrivals from purchase orders.
  • Adhere to environmental and safety regulations and comply with U.S. laws.
  • Comply with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands

  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Travel

Travel is not normally required in this position but may be required on certain occasions.

Required Education and Experience

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two to three years' previous purchasing experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • P21 software experience a plus.
  • Fastener knowledge a plus.
