About the role
We are looking for a detail-oriented Purchaser to support material and service procurement for operations in Louisiana. This role is responsible for securing supplies, equipment, and vendor services in a way that supports production timelines, cost expectations, and quality standards. The ideal candidate brings strong buying experience, sound judgment in supplier negotiations, and the ability to manage priorities with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Manage purchasing activities for materials, equipment, and service needs to help maintain production schedules and operational continuity.
- Identify suppliers with relevant experience, obtain pricing, negotiate terms, and issue purchase orders for both stocked and non-stocked items.
- Maintain accurate vendor records and purchasing data within company systems to support effective procurement operations.
- Track open orders, follow up on delivery status, adjust order timing when needed, and review overdue or backordered items to reduce disruptions.
- Review product documentation and quality records, support incoming material checks, and help coordinate trials for newly introduced materials.
- Analyze recurring inventory and supply usage, including production items, shipping materials, cartons, ink, adhesives, and other warehouse needs, and place replenishment orders accordingly.
- Coordinate supplier quotes and assist with contract-related purchasing activities to ensure competitive and timely sourcing decisions.
- Arrange outbound shipments for items requiring repair and support cycle count activities for raw materials.
- Participate in supplier meetings, communicate purchasing issues to leadership, and provide day-to-day support to the Director of Purchasing.
- Report concerns related to product safety or quality and complete other assigned duties that support the purchasing function.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or buyer-related responsibilities.
- College education or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience in purchasing, contracting, construction, engineering, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to analyze information and work effectively with suppliers and internal teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and comfort working in purchasing or financial systems.
- Familiarity with manufacturing or machine shop environments and an understanding of material planning and supply coordination.
- Ability to manage deadlines, organize multiple priorities, and work independently while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and quality.
- Strong critical thinking, analytical, and reasoning skills for evaluating suppliers, costs, and purchasing requirements.
- Capability to guide, support, and share knowledge with both technical and non-technical colleagues when needed.
