About the role
The Category Lead is a strategic partner responsible for driving the end-to-end management, performance, and optimization of a Purchased Finished Goods category within the global supply chain. This role plays a critical part in shaping sourcing strategies for purchased finished goods, enhancing supplier relationships, and delivering long-term value through cost optimization, risk mitigation, and innovation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of comprehensive category sourcing strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Drive supplier selection and qualification processes through RFI/RFQ activities, ensuring alignment with technical, quality, and commercial requirements.
- Lead contract negotiations and establish agreements with purchased finished goods suppliers.
- Manage and execute supply chain initiatives focused on cost savings, risk mitigation, and operational efficiency for purchased finished goods categories.
- Oversee vendor lifecycle management, including onboarding, performance evaluation, and exit strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution of sourcing strategies and continuity.
- Analyze market trends, supplier capabilities, and internal demand to identify strategic sourcing opportunities.
- Serve as strategic advisor to senior leadership on category performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Champion continuous improvement and innovation within the purchased finished goods supply base and internal processes.
- Mentor and influence cross-functional teams while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in purchased finished goods category management.
- Strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and proficiency in data analysis tools.
- Understanding of medical devices and industry regulations preferred.
- Willingness to flex work hours as necessary to engage with global teams and supply partners.
- Willingness to challenge the status quo and facilitate different perspectives to drive solutions.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and procurement analytics tools, SAP and COUPA or equivalent systems preferred.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field.
- Experience includes 8+ years of experience in purchased finished goods category management.
- Skills include strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and proficiency in data analysis tools.
- Preferences include understanding of medical devices and industry regulations, proficiency in ERP systems and procurement analytics tools, and willingness to flex work hours and challenge the status quo.
