About the role
This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. The team builds sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.
Responsibilities
- Perform fluids analysis on Lunar vehicle components (pumps)
- Provide design recommendations to Responsible Engineers based on analysis insights
- Generate and run secondary flow analysis models to provide design feedback
- Support test activities to anchor analytical models and aid in product development
- Optimize and co-develop pump designs for efficiency, power consumption, system integration, manufacturability, cost, mass, leakage, and reliability
- Lead a small team in fluid analysis throughout the product lifecycle
- Work with a wide variety of manufacturing methods, material selection, testing, characterization, and allowable development
Qualifications
- M.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in thermal and/or fluids analysis and mechanical component design
- 5+ years of experience with classical hand calculations for thermal and/or fluids analysis based on common aerospace reference materials (Shigley, Bruhn, Roark etc.)
- 3+ years of experience with Ansys CFX, Ansys Fluent, workbench or other CFD analysis software
- 2+ years of experience with thermal desktop, FloCAD, or other thermal analysis software
- Experience with a wide variety of manufacturing methods, material selection, testing, characterization & allowable development
- Desired: Analyzing cryogenic components, script automation in Ansys workbench, experience working on human-rated space hardware, experience working with NASA requirements
