Pump Station Assistant (Maintenance Worker II)

About the role

The City of Alameda, Public Works Department is seeking to fill one (1) vacancy for Pump Station Assistant (Maintenance Worker II).

Responsibilities

• Performs journey-level skilled or semi-skilled construction, maintenance and repair work.
• Operates and maintains construction and maintenance equipment for a variety of construction and maintenance operations involving public facilities, streets, sidewalks, gutters, and waste and storm water systems.
• Installs signs, traffic cones and barricades.
• Performs rough and finished carpentry.
• Performs skilled electrical repair and maintenance work related to public buildings, traffic signals, waste and storm water systems, and other public facilities or operations.
• Paints building surfaces, furniture, fixtures, signs, traffic control lines, etc.
• Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures.
• Operates and maintains a variety of waste and storm water systems pumps; cleans, excavates and/or repairs waste and storm water systems pipes.
• Maintains sprinkler and irrigation systems and equipment.
• Prunes and maintains trees and landscaped areas.
• Maintains supplies, work records and logs.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications, maps and drawings.
• Drives and operates heavy trucks and specialized vehicular equipment.
• May provide lead direction and training for subordinate employees.
• Assists in troubleshooting, constructing, installing, repairing and servicing industrial equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, gauges, controls, metering equipment, level indicators and other equipment.
• Assists in installing, maintaining, repairing and replacing all the piping and pumping systems which serve the sewer lift stations and storm pump stations.
• Responds to emergency situations or calls out on an on-call basis.

Requirements

• Education/Experience: Any combination equivalent to education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities.
• Desirable: Experience with the maintenance of sewer and/or storm systems, plumbing experience, or entry level underground construction.

Qualifications

• Knowledge: Modern practices, procedures, equipment and tools used in journey level skilled trade work and in related construction and maintenance; safe work practices and procedures.
• Ability: Perform a variety of journey level skilled construction, maintenance and repair work including carpentry, plumbing, electrical and concrete work, tree and landscape maintenance, traffic painting, sign maintenance, and waste and storm water systems; operate heavy trucks, specialized vehicular equipment, and other related tools and equipment; perform technically sophisticated and highly complex maintenance related work; read and interpret blueprints, maps and drawings; use spray equipment and restricted chemicals; maintain accurate records; communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public; provide lead direction and training to subordinate employees.

Skills

• Willingness and ability to respond to after-hours emergency calls as required.

Pay

Salary range: $3,985 - $5,237 per month.
