About the role
The Pump Sales Associate Specialist manages a defined territory pipeline by converting warm leads into active opportunities. They focus on building core selling skills, product and therapy knowledge, and are accountable to foundational quota and conversion expectations. This entry-level role focuses on execution of basic sales processes, accurate documentation, and developing empathy-driven conversations to meet patient needs.
Responsibilities
- Proactively manage a pipeline of new and renewal customers through outbound calls, ensuring follow-up from inquiry to order.
- Handle inbound calls to provide support, product information, and start the sales process.
- Follow developed sales scripts and demonstrate basic empathy while listening to patient concerns.
- Communicate with customers using foundational knowledge of pump therapy to highlight core product features.
- Understand and convey basic insurance coverage and co-pay expectations.
- Use CRM to document interactions, guided by reminders and scripts.
- Handle objections by deferring to manager or approved scripts.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and avoid any disclosure of protected information.
- Know daily targets (calls, connections) and begin tracking performance consistently.
- Manage calls efficiently to meet baseline call volume and conversion metrics.
- Explain core pump functionality and help patients understand its day-to-day impact.
- Identify insurance types and confirm general coverage details.
- Accurately document call activity with coaching support.
- Communicate clearly using templates and track follow-up activity.
- Support prescriber paperwork with basic documentation knowledge.
- Redirect advanced concerns to managers or mentors.
- Follow HIPAA guidelines and avoid off-label conversation.
- Track personal call and sales metrics with guidance.
- Follow structured work priorities using established daily workflow templates.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience.
- 1-year recent experience interfacing with customers in a sales support role including a combination of:
- Experience in field sales or telesales experience in medical device, technology, or similar field.
- Experience being accountable for sales quotas in a challenging, fast paced, changing environment.
- Experience in patient diabetes education.
- Experience documenting calls by typing on a keyboard while speaking to a customer on the phone.
- Experience and knowledge of diabetes is preferred.
- Knowledge of diabetes, unmet needs of diabetes therapies, and benefits of insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring or other disease management devices/diagnostics desirable.
- Knowledge of durable medical equipment policies, health insurance providers and reimbursement policies as it relates to diabetes supplies preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate over the phone, email, or text with customers to resolve issues and answer questions according to department protocols and requirements.
- Able to apply distinctive phone sales skills and product knowledge to address and alleviate patient concerns and to promote the sale of products.
- Experience documenting calls by typing on a keyboard while speaking to a customer on the phone.
- Effective call handling skills and a proven track record of excellent customer service based on call handling or related metrics.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Able to assert own ideas and persuade others through effectively consolidating, evaluating, and presenting relevant information.
- Skilled at promoting team cooperation and a commitment to team success.
- Adept at seeing change as an opportunity to improve business performance and campaigning for it when necessary.
- Computer competency including MS office, Internet, and navigation of customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
- Knowledge of call handling phone systems is preferred.

Benefits
This role offers a quarterly target commission of up to $3,000, based on individual and team performance. Annualized earning potential including incentive plan $54,640 - $58,800. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus and a robust benefits package. Tandem offers health care benefits such as medical, dental, vision available your first day, as well as health savings accounts and flexible saving accounts. You’ll also receive 11 paid holidays per year, a minimum of 20 days of paid time off (with accrual starting on day 1) and you will have access to a 401k plan with company match as well as an Employee Stock Purchase plan.
Pay
The starting base hourly pay range for this position is $20.50 - $22.50. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market.
Schedule
This position has a variety of shifts spanning 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM (Pacific Time) or equivalent based on time zone. After the initial onboarding schedule of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM PT, the shift schedule will be assigned.
