Pump and Motor Technician I

About the role

Perform duties essential to operate and maintain the city’s utility operating systems, including preventive maintenance and repair of pumps and motor controls in the collection system, distribution system, water treatment plant, and water reclamation facility. This role is safety-sensitive and requires random drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventive maintenance on electric circuits and motor controls at treatment plants, lift stations, and pumping stations.
• Repairs electric circuits, instrumentation, and motor controls at treatment plants, lift stations, and pumping stations.
• Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on various industrial equipment including pumps and motors at treatment plants, lift stations, and pumping stations.
• Repairs and maintains electric circuits on city property.
• Ensures truck has adequate supplies and maintains assigned truck in proper working condition.
• Keeps all work areas clean and organized.
• Completes required work orders.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Participates in on-call rotation to respond to emergencies and after-hour repair needs.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience in water and wastewater utility operation, maintenance, or construction (or equivalent combination of experience and training).
• Valid Texas Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
• Class B CDL or ability to obtain within one (1) year.

Skills

• Knowledge of basic first aid procedures and safe operating procedures for equipment and electricity.
• Able to operate various handheld tools and apply safety standards.
• Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers.
• Proficient in using standard office equipment and technical systems, including radios, variable frequency drives, programmable logic controllers, and control panels.
• Skilled in working with the public in stressful situations.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs. and drag/pull up to 100 lbs.
• Able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, squat, crawl, talk, hear, and smell as required by the role.

Work Conditions

• Works in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to adverse weather conditions.
• Exposure to industrial chemicals; responsible for safely handling, transporting, and operating equipment in accordance with hazardous materials protocols.
